Schaffer picks up where he left off!
Defending Series Champion Paul Schaffer picked up the win Saturday night at Angola Motor Speedway in Race #2 for the US Super Trucks Speed Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro.
After the second practice session it looked like Schaffer was going to have the Truck to beat. Kraig Bontrager would have something to say about that during Qualifying though. Rookie competitor Bontrager picked up the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award, just missing the track record by a couple hundredths of a second.
Two more Rookie drivers, Todd DeWaters and Jesse Thatcher would lead the Trucks to the green flag for the 30 lap feature. 2010 Rookie Champion, Jason LaDuke was wasting no time getting to the front, making a three wide pass down the front stretch and taking the lead going into the first turn. As LaDuke distanced himself from the field, Schaffer and Bontrager were working through traffic, finally making it to second and third spots.
Finally a caution bunched the field up, putting Schaffer on LaDuke's tailgate. The two started to distance themselves from the field. The standing room only crowd was on their feet for the next ten laps as Schaffer tried every move in the book, including the chrome horn, to get around LaDuke.
Finally LaDuke slipped and Schaffer would motor on to the victory followed by LaDuke, Stone, Bontrager and DeWaters in the top five.
The next race for the US Super Trucks Speed Pro Great Lakes Series presented by Engine Pro will be July 16th at the Sandusky Speedway, don't miss it!
